Career / Success Coach
Career Success Coaches are the heart of our Career Launch programs for veterans transitioning to jobs in the growth economy. It is through our Success Coaches that we actualize our mission on an individual level, “to love our veterans into a future they can scarcely imagine.”
Success Coaches have overall ownership for an individual veteran’s successful career launch. We define that to be sustainable employment in any organization that uses the skills required. The Success Coach guides each veteran through the entire process, from enrollment to a solid career launch in their chosen field. He/she ensures that the veteran takes full advantage of available training and resources to achieve this launch goal.
The projected commitment for this assignment is 8 to 24 hours total over a period of 9 months, allocated as follows: Preparation Phase: 6-20 hours over 60-120 days; Launch Phase: 2-4 hours over 180 days. These estimates can vary widely, depending on how much “love” you have to give.
Many companies provide a matching grant for volunteer work, so your donated hours as a Success Coach can be a multiplier. The additional financial support goes a surprisingly long way toward helping veterans make successful career transitions.

As we build toward a radically improved system, we know we need to continue to deliver meaningful results in the short term. We're proud of the innovations that will lead to structural change and encouraged by our initial results. The task of wholesale requires sophisticated partners who want full accountability for how their charitable dollars are spent.
- Measurable outcomes. For the veterans enrolled in our Career Launch programs, six months continuous employment is the end objective. Our average success rate is just shy of 80%, average time to train, prepare and place is 90 days, with an average all-in cost of $3,500. The placement of veterans using the VetMatch predictive hiring tool is expected to cost less than $1,000.
- Low costs. We are able to deliver such results at such low costs because of our unique and robust network of volunteers, partners and employers, and donated resources.
- High returns. As measured against the benefits, these are unusually high performing investments. Our $3,500 expense, for example, to retool and launch a veteran into a high growth career, yields a 5,000% return when measured against the difference in net present value of expected lifetime earnings. The returns on VetMatch placements are similarly outsize.
- 100% funding efficiency. We allocate income earned from employer services first to overhead. This we do to realize our goal of applying 100% of donated funds to the core mission.
