One soldier's path to a technology sales career

"I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in the beginning of 2013 with the hopes of getting into sales.  I knew that I had what it took, but I soon learned that it was easier said than done.     

​​"One thing that my military experience helped me do was to get security jobs.  This was enough to help me get by—just barely.  However, security work wasn’t what I wanted to do, and it didn’t take advantage of what I felt I could contribute.  ​

​"My fellow veterans felt the same frustration.  Two years later, after completing my university studies, I was still having trouble getting to where I wanted to be.   I knew that my seven years in the Army and National Guard as an Infantryman had instilled in me qualities that civilian employers would value, but my lack of experience proved to be a deal breaker—and I had no way to bridge the gap.   I had landed interviews and I was always told I did great, but I was always the runner up for lack of experience.  ​
